THE HISTORY

It is it’s remarkable company history and tradition what makes BMW an integral part of our Luxury Car Rentals fleet in Sydney

The origins of BMW AG begin with other manufacturing companies including Rapp Motorenwerke an aircraft engineer manufacturer (which later merged into Bayerische Flugzeugwerke) and Fahrzeugfabrik Eisenach. Bayerische Flugzeugwerke also known as BFW acquired Bayerische Motorenwerke, who specialised in manufacturing industrial grade engines.

Together Bayerische Flugzeugwerke and Bayerische Motorenwerke merged into BMW, joining forces to manufacture industrial engines for aircrafts, automobiles and motorcycles. Many may not know that the iconic BMW logo symbolises a white/silver propeller spinning against a blue sky, paying tribute to the foundation of the company.

During 1929 BMW progressed further into the manufacturing of automobile engines. BMW acquired Fahrzeugfabrik Eisenach who specialised in car manufacturing.

THE HISTORY

(Continued)

Throughout 1936 BMW engineers progressively developed their seven based cars into six-cylinder luxury cars and began production of the BMW 328 sports car.  This new age sports car provided agility, acceleration, reliability and lightweight construction.

Although BMW originally designed the 328 sports car for racing purposes, it proved to be extremely popular and was manufactured continuously until 1940. During the time leading up to World War II, BMW focused on manufacturing aircraft engines, motorcycles and automobiles.

However during the war BMW concentrated its resources on aircraft engine production and motorcycle production. BMW took a step back from automobile manufacture and completely stopped manufacture during this period, against the wishes of director Franz Josef Popp.
